The International Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima

By: Ning Ramos
Our Parish, the Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord was blessed with the privilege of being one of the only two parishes in the Diocese of Paranaque to be visited on February 14, 2009 by the world famous International Pilgrim Statue of Our lady of Fatima. The Pilgrim Virgin was sculpted by Jose Thedim in 1947 according to the description of Sr. Lucia, one of the children who saw the Virgin Mary. So far, the Pilgrim Statue has visited more than 100 countries around the world.

From Iloilo City, the Pilgrim Virgin Statue arrived at the Verdant covered court around 3:00 P.M. and was warmly welcomed by our Parish Priest, Fr. August Pulido, Fr. Tito Ranola, the parishioners of the Last Supper of Our Lord, Visitors and Barangay Officials of Pamplona 3. A short welcome program and praying of the Rosary with Marian songs after each mystery was rendered. After the program, a procession of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue carried and protected the members of the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion escorted by motorcycle traffic enforcers with the Perpetual School Drum and Lyre playing. The procession passed through the main streets of Verdant Acre. Camella/Manuela IV-A, Manuela Integrated and UPHR. Members of the different parish ministries and organizations as well as Village Homeowners who joined the procession and those who lined along the way with lighted candles on the side streets, waved the Marian blue and white flags while chanting praises of God’s goodness. Many are awed and in tears as they watched the solemn statue of Our Lady of Fatima. Petals of roses and flowers were strewn along the procession. MBG members attire in native kimona performed the “Karakol” dance during the procession. The Pilgrim Statue was welcomed at the Parish Church by Fr. August Pulido and other parishioners as well as visitors from other parishes of the Dioceses of Paranaque.

Mr. Carl Malburg, Custodian/Director of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue Foundation, Inc. gave a short talk on the role of Our Lady of Fatima on the peace plan from heaven’s call for prayer, conversion and penance offered in reparation for our sins. A concelebrated Mass at 6:30 P.M. was led by Bishop Jesse Mercado, Fr. August Pulido, Fr. Tito Ranola, Fr. Rene Frias and Fr. Melvin Castro, who arranged the Pilgrim Statue’s visit as requested and coordinated by Mr. Lazaro Gallardo, Jr. A Coronation of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue was performed by Bishop Jesse Mercado after the mass. An hourly vigil and praying of the 4 Mysteries with Marian songs by the different village parishioners, ministries and organizations followed from 8:00 P.M. to 12:00 midnight.

The International Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima left our parish on February 15 after the 8:00 A.M. Sunday Mass bound for the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Pasig City.

By: Ning Ramos

The Emapalico Homes, in coordination with the Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord, held a Marian Exhibit at their Multi-purpose Hall beside the St Joseph the Worker Chapel from February 2 to 11, 2009. The opening ceremony was officiated by Fr. August Pulido after the February 1 7:30 A.M. Sunday Mass. Attending the opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was Congresswoman Cynthia A. Exibited were 38 Marian statues and icons from the different towns and municipalities of the province of Cavite and the cities of Muntinlupa and Las Pinas. A brief informative history and background of each statue/icon in display can be read. Prominent is the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes who’s feast day will be celebrated on February 11. The life history of Bernadette Soubirous and the events of the Virgin Mary’s apparition as a beautiful lady dressed in white with blue belt in the cave of Massabille in Lourdes, France and revealing herself as “The Immaculate Conception” in 1858 can be read. Here, she revealed he messages and foretold the vision of peace and unity amongst nation only if people will be prayerful especially in praying the rosary for the conversion of sinners. Many other prominent statues of the Virgin Mary like the Immaculate Seniora de Penafrancia, Nuestra Senora delos Remedios, Nuestra Seniora Mater Purissima and Mater Angustia to name a few are in exhibit courtesy of their respective owners/church.

In charge of overlooking order and welcoming visitors to the exhibit from February 2 to 10 from 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on weekdays and from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. during weekends was Mr. Ricardo Vida, one of the homeowner’s board of directors. Nine days of novena where the rosary is being prayed every 8:00 P.M. was held where designated coordinators from 9 different streets of Emapalico Homes takes charge. Attending the daily novena are not only the Emapalico Homeowners but from other villages of the Parish community as well. On February 11 at 5:30 P.M. the Feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, a procession of her statue together with their Patron St. Joseph the worker was held from the chapel to the Parish Church. After the 7:00 P.M. parish mass, Fr. August Pulido performed God’s healing through Mary in observance of the World day of the Sick as proclaimed by Pope John Paul II.

Hopefully, exhibits and novenas like this will always remind us of our devotion to the Virgin Mother of God on her piety and obedience to God’s will through her Son Jesus Christ.

Mga Gamot sa Hapag

Opo! From now on make food your medicine.

1. APPLES Healing Powers:
· Can help lower the risk of heart disease
· Prevent constipation
· Control diabetes
· Prevent cancer

Much of an apple’s healing power is in the skin (rind) which contains large amount of a compound called quercetin (an antioxidant compound that can help prevent harmful oxygen molecules from damaging, individual cells). This can help prevent changes in the cells that can lead to cancer. Quercetin can inhibit the growth of tumors and also help prevent cancer cells from spreading.

Insoluble fiber found mostly in the skin (rind) has long been recommended for relieving constipation. It can help prevent diverticulosis (a condition in which small pouches are formed in the large intestines and also cancer of the colon). Plus, insoluble fiber is filling, which is why apples are such an excellent weight control food for people who want to lose weight without being hungry all the time.

The soluble fiber in apples forms a gel-like material in the digestive tract that helps lower cholesterol and the risk of heart disease and stroke. The soluble fiber called pectin appear to reduce the amount of cholesterol produce in the liver, providing double protection. Pectin slows the rise in blood sugar so it’s good for people with diabetes.

*Getting the most > Look for varieties that brown easily to reap the most health benefit. Don’t count on apple juice. By the time apples wind up as juice they have given up of their fiber and quercetin. Don’t use it as a substitute for the real thing.

THE BALIK-HANDOG PROGRAM OF THE PARISH OF THE LAST SUPPER OF OUR LORD

What is the Balik-Handog Program?

The Balik-Handog Program in the Parish of the Last Supper of Our Lord which was started seven years ago, is a voluntary response from the parishioners to offer a fraction of our earnings to the church. This is an expression of thanksgiving for the favors and graces we received from God, who is the source of all the blessings we enjoy. The amount depends upon the capacity the giver. Any amount is welcome! It is important that contribution shall be given cheerfully and shall be done regularly. The money received from the Balik-Handog program is being used to:
· Support the programs and activities of the different ministries and organizations.
Eventually fund-raising and other forms of solicitations will be minimized if not avoided.

· Finance and maintain the security of all church properties

· Maintain the Parish Formation Center

· Maintain the buildings and equipments

Everything we have is a blessing (gifts) from God. All our resources and facilities are gift from His Divine Providence. We are not owners of these things. We are only caretakers.

Therefore, it is important for us to realize that:
· Only God owns everything in this world
· Men are only “caretaker” of all His belongings
· Without God’s help man won’t find his real wealth
· We have to instill on us the value of generosity a chance to share, love, help and serve the needs of everyone in the parish

Your gift through Balik-Handog is most appreciated as the parish works diligently to meet its expenses and maintain itself supporting status. As parishioners, we are encouraged to give back a portion of what God has given us.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your generosity in answering to the different projects of the Balik-Handog Program. To support the program we are happy to relay to you where your share went.
